The journey

Saigon in half-days and the delta in a full one. The Cu Chi tunnels take a morning, the War Remnants Museum an afternoon, and day three goes out to My Tho and Ben Tre — sampans in the water-coconut channels, the orchards, a set lunch on the way. Everything runs from one hotel in District 1, and nothing in the routing needs a domestic flight, which is a large part of why three nights costs what it does.

How the 4 days actually run.

  1. Day 01

    Ho Chi Minh City

    Arrive, transfer and check in. A city half-day in the afternoon — District 1 on foot and by car, and the market if there is time.

    Cu Chi, then the museum

    Out to the Cu Chi tunnels for the morning. Back for lunch, and the War Remnants Museum in the afternoon.

  3. Day 03

    Mekong Delta

    A long day south to My Tho and Ben Tre — a boat on the main river, sampans through the narrow channels, coconut workshops, the orchards and lunch. Back in the city by evening.

  • The Mekong day is a long one and runs on a sharing basis — out around 08:00, back around 18:00, with a set lunch. A private car and boat is quotable on request
  • The War Remnants Museum is unsparing about the war, including photographs of casualties — worth deciding in advance whether younger children go in, and the afternoon works without it
